Partnering with Food Aid Foundation
Advisory Apps Sdn Bhd with Food Aid Foundation
Date: 14th April 2019
Time: 2 pm - 9 pm
Venue of cooking: Food Aid Foundation (Desa Tun Razak)
Venue of CSR: Buku Jalanan Chow Kit
On 14th April 2019, the Advisory Apps team partnered with Food Aid Foundation for a hands-on CSR initiative. The day began at Food Aid Foundation’s kitchen in Desa Tun Razak, where our team helped prepare meals for the community. Later that evening, we headed to Buku Jalanan Chow Kit to distribute the food and spend time with those in need.
Food Aid Foundation is a Malaysian non-profit organisation established in 2012 with a singular mission: to reduce food waste while addressing hunger. The foundation works by rescuing surplus food from hotels, restaurants, and caterers across the Klang Valley, then redirecting those meals to communities who need them most. Since its founding, Food Aid Foundation has distributed millions of meals to underprivileged families, the homeless, and urban poor in Kuala Lumpur.
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”
Cooking and Giving Back at Buku Jalanan Chow Kit
Our team arrived at Food Aid Foundation’s community kitchen in Desa Tun Razak early in the afternoon. Under the guidance of the foundation’s experienced kitchen coordinators, we prepared large batches of nutritious meals from scratch. The cooking process itself was a team-building exercise — colleagues who usually collaborate over code were now chopping vegetables, stirring pots, and packing containers side by side.
By evening, we loaded the prepared meals and made our way to Buku Jalanan Chow Kit, a well-known community space in the heart of KL’s Chow Kit neighbourhood. Buku Jalanan, which translates to “street books,” is an open-air library and gathering point that has become a lifeline for the area’s homeless and marginalised residents. Our team distributed the meals directly, taking time to sit down and have conversations with the people we served. These personal connections made the experience far more impactful than simply handing over food — they reminded us that dignity and human connection are just as important as a warm meal.

Why CSR Matters to Advisory Apps
At Advisory Apps, corporate social responsibility is not a checkbox exercise — it is woven into how we think about our place in the community. As a software company based in Kuala Lumpur, we recognise that our success is built on the strength of the people and communities around us. Giving back through initiatives like this one keeps our team grounded and connected to the realities beyond the screen.
Making a Difference Together
This CSR event was a meaningful reminder that technology companies have a role to play beyond the office. By giving our time and effort, the Advisory Apps team experienced firsthand the impact of community service and the importance of supporting those around us. We are grateful to Food Aid Foundation for the opportunity to contribute, and we encourage other organisations in Malaysia’s tech community to explore similar partnerships. The need is great, and even a single afternoon of volunteering can make a lasting difference in someone’s day.
