Our Visit to Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah
It was a great opportunity for us to be there and spent our time with all these special people.
The centre provides daily care, therapy, and educational support for children with disabilities in the Taman Megah community. Our team spent the day interacting with the children, lending a hand to the caregivers, and learning first-hand about the centre’s tireless work.
Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah is a community-run care centre located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. It serves children with various physical and developmental disabilities, offering them a safe environment where they receive physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and basic education. Many of the children come from low-income families who would otherwise have limited access to specialised care. The centre operates largely on donations and the tireless dedication of its small team of caregivers and volunteers.
During our visit, the Advisory Apps team had the chance to spend quality time with the children — playing games, assisting with activities, and simply being present. We also brought along supplies that the centre had identified as immediate needs, including food, hygiene products, and educational materials. Beyond the material contributions, what the children and caregivers appreciated most was the companionship and the sense that the wider community cares about their wellbeing.
About Disability Care in Malaysia
Malaysia has made progress in supporting persons with disabilities through policies like the Persons with Disabilities Act 2008 and the registration programme under the Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (Department of Social Welfare). However, grassroots centres like Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah often fill gaps that public services cannot fully cover, particularly for families in urban areas who need daily care and therapy for their children.
